DIY: minimalist transparent prism earrings
i was hunting around my garage today for some paint to decorate this storage box i have in my room when i came across these little broken bits of lampshade/chandelier in a drawer. i immediately thought i could use these as some form of perspex/clear jewellery, very http://love-aesthetics.blogspot.co.uk!
i have a million and one pairs of little stud earrings, you know the ones you get in bulk from new look or h&m? so i decided to used some jewellery/bead wire and a bit of glue to attach the two together! voila! it's so easy and i love the result...
here's what i used:
and the simple quick steps go from left, right, left, right... oh! and to snip away the excess wire at the end, i just used nail clippers.
leave them to dry for a few hours and you're done!!!
so there you have it :) i guess if you have old crystals or lampshades or even big beads this method can be used. however, if earrigns aren't your thing... i'm also thinking of stringing a prism from some black cord for a minimalist look necklace.. the possibilities are endless!

film 07
seeking a friend for the end of the world (2012)
i wanted to see this movie just by looking at the poster in a cinema a few weeks ago. steve carrell is usually pretty good, but i love any film with keira (total girl crush). the movie was very ironic and funny in parts. their couldnt have been better actors cast for the lead roles. the only thing that annoyed me was how the movie was filmed. i wish they hadn't used so much 'classic' hollywood romcom style cinematography. smaller cameras with bits of grain or shallow focus would have absolutely perfected this movie. it's a little bit different to most big hollywood apocalyptic movies, i recommend.
waking life (2001)
taken from my university summer watch list, i was drawn to it because of the cartoon aesthetic. it's quite a hard film to get into, it has a meaty, intellectual script with lots of philosophical words and ideologies. once you work your way through the first hour, you can't help but want to know if he 'wakes up', is dead, or if he perfects his 'lucid dreaming state'. they're are so many different ways you could interpret the film. i do applaud the writer/director richard linklater, the non stop animation - which i presume was drawn over from actual filmed footage - must have taken some time to create.
serendipity (2001)
i can't believe i hadn't seen this before, it strikes me as a classic chick flick (along with the likes of pretty woman and so on..) that has you guessing and willing the two leads to find eachother again! pretty imagery throughout and a classic few twists and turns in there.
a clockwork orange (1971)
another form my university watch list, i have wanted to watch this 'cult' movie from stanley kubrick for a while now, but i kept putting it off after knowing about it being banned and hearing how disturbing people said it was. however, i didn't think it was too disturbing at all, i've seen worse. maybe it was disturbing in the 70's, probably. anyway, i thought the storyline of main charactier 'alex' was really well written, and the way the narrative was executed was a little far out and strange, but overall i think that was how it needed to be performed and filmed.
thelma & louise (1991)
i actually really loved this, and i can't really put my finger on the exact reasons why. i predicted the ending and that usually ruins films for me, but even this time - i still enjoyed it. i love the way tanela lednicky styled the girls throughout the film. the storyline is typically hollywood but really hooks you and you feel like you're on the run with them! it pretty much has it all - humour, drama, romance, action, car chases and brad pitt.

these posts contain a list and short bio of 5 films that i've most recently viewed. they include films that have been on my 'to watch' list for years, have been recommended to me, have been recently released or are on the list of films for my university project! i try not to include spoilers in my descriptions - just a brief synopsis, the genre and my general opinion. |

rose gold crosses, snow white nails
rose gold cross ring: river island, greek band ring: from athens, filigree ring: simply silver at debenhams
i seem to have a fascination with white nail varnish - or as my mam likes to call it 'the tipp-ex look'. this one is by model's own and it's called 'snow white' is my most favourite white polish. it's perfect for french tips, nail art and full coverage. you only need two thin coats for an opaque brilliant white finish, it's a really minimalistic, simple look. love it ♥
i also picked up this cute little rose gold cross ring yesterday.. i wore it most of yesterday afternoon and last night, then i fell asleep wearing it. this morning i woke up and the rosy finish had practically rubbed off, within a 24 hour period - very upsetting.

DIY: tie dye isabel marant style jeans
jacket: topshop, tunic top: new look, boots: topshop, jeans: DIY, necklace: vintage, watch: urban outfitters photograph (directly below): source unknown
i am sooooo so happy with how my old but now new jeans have turned out, i used a tie-dying bleach effect on them which is literally the easiest and simplest DIY i've ever done!
i've wanted to try it out ever since i saw isabel marant attack red jeans, denim shirts and pink chino trousers with some bleach in her S/S 2012 show. then this summer very similar pairs cropped up in zara ax paris and topshop, so i decided to give it a go on a really old pair of new look jeans (96% cotton, 4% polyester) and see how they turned out...

summertime sadness
OUTFIT - jacket: river island, t shirt: asos, jeans: new look, sandals: h&m, bag: vintage fair.
JEWELLERY - bracelets: shops in mallorca / DIY / urban outfitters, necklace: h&m, rings: sterling silver from debenhams / h&m / athens in greece / topshop, anklet: mallorca.
after coming home from the beautiful sunshine in mallorca, to the dull skies of england... i didn't want to stop channelling summertime. i really want to parade around in the rain with my levi cut offs, bare legs, baggy summer tops and sunglasses - but unfortunately that's not socially acceptable or indeed practical in the current english climate. this outfit is my compromise - the loudest, most summery t shirt i own, with sandals, a lightweight denim jacket with jersey sleeves and all my holiday jewellery. screw you british weather.

p.p.s i'm currently loving gradient / tonal nails, if you can rack up enough shades of any colour nail polish, then get on this! i think it's really cool.

hanging spikes
just a quick post to show you my new favourite earrings. i bought these plain silver spiked earrings from ebay a few weeks back. they were really cheap and cheerful at about £2.80 with free p+p. i am really fascinated by minimalistic jewellery lately, a less is more approach.
i'm attracted to rings and necklaces that aren't too ornate or sparkly. i have a jewellery pinterest board called 'adornments' which i'm constantly adding too and trying to find pieces like.

mallorca rocks
my week in magaluf with four of my favourite girls was pretty amazing, i don't want to be at home! here's a quick photobomb of some of the stuff that went on last week.
afrojack at bcm planet dance, shuffling in crystals bar, sexy bananas and chicken nuggets, mental booze cruising, lots of laughing gas, HAPPY DAYS, 5am trips to the beach, mallorca bracelets, more free alcohol than bought alcohol, paddling in the sea, the worst chat up lines ever, rodeo bulls and that hardly covers it!
