i had the pleasure of assisting photographer sarah louise stedeford on an editorial for my favourite australian magazine in ever (Oyster!!!) a few weeks back - on an insanely scorching day in lift studios, north east london.
it was my first assisting job as a photographic lighting assistant, up until now i've somehow only managed to assist stylists on shoot - with my own work, i kind of skipped to just shooting my own editorials straight away. so i completely needed to get some assisting experience and expand all knowledge. so i'm so grateful to sarah for letting me help out on set even though i'm a complete lighting novice, (natural light is my own photographic friend!)
personally, i don't think you can ever stop learning new skills in the photography industry. there are so many divisions of the art form - landscape, portrait, macro, street, documentary, reportage, music, editorial, food, still life - the list goes on! each area has it's own set of rules, it's own language, lighting and requirements it's so addictive and i want to learn my way around them all.
the editorial 'is it tomorrow?' styled by PC williams, was inspired by the documentary film 'dogtown and z-boys' so obviously has a california cool, youthful and realistic skateboarding vibe. we worked with three male models on set, liam gardner @ select, jamie tomlinson @ fm models and malcolm lindberg @ SUPA - the casting was amazinggggg.
