film 07

seeking a friend for the end of the world (2012)

i wanted to see this movie just by looking at the poster in a cinema a few weeks ago. steve carrell is usually pretty good, but i love any film with keira (total girl crush). the movie was very ironic and funny in parts. their couldnt have been better actors cast for the lead roles. the only thing that annoyed me was how the movie was filmed. i wish they hadn't used so much 'classic' hollywood romcom style cinematography. smaller cameras with bits of grain or shallow focus would have absolutely perfected this movie. it's a little bit different to most big hollywood apocalyptic movies, i recommend.

waking life (2001)

taken from my university summer watch list, i was drawn to it because of the cartoon aesthetic. it's quite a hard film to get into, it has a meaty, intellectual script with lots of philosophical words and ideologies. once you work your way through the first hour, you can't help but want to know if he 'wakes up', is dead, or if he perfects his 'lucid dreaming state'. they're are so many different ways you could interpret the film. i do applaud the writer/director richard linklater, the non stop animation - which i presume was drawn over from actual filmed footage - must have taken some time to create.

serendipity (2001)

i can't believe i hadn't seen this before, it strikes me as a classic chick flick (along with the likes of pretty woman and so on..) that has you guessing and willing the two leads to find eachother again! pretty imagery throughout and a classic few twists and turns in there.

a clockwork orange (1971)

another form my university watch list, i have wanted to watch this 'cult' movie from stanley kubrick for a while now, but i kept putting it off after knowing about it being banned and hearing how disturbing people said it was. however, i didn't think it was too disturbing at all, i've seen worse. maybe it was disturbing in the 70's, probably. anyway, i thought the storyline of main charactier 'alex' was really well written, and the way the narrative was executed was a little far out and strange, but overall i think that was how it needed to be performed and filmed.

thelma & louise (1991)

i actually really loved this, and i can't really put my finger on the exact reasons why. i predicted the ending and that usually ruins films for me, but even this time - i still enjoyed it. i love the way tanela lednicky styled the girls throughout the film. the storyline is typically hollywood but really hooks you and you feel like you're on the run with them! it pretty much has it all - humour, drama, romance, action, car chases and brad pitt.

these posts contain a list and short bio of 5 films that i've most recently viewed. they include films that have been on my 'to watch' list for years, have been recommended to me, have been recently released or are on the list of films for my university project! i try not to include spoilers in my descriptions - just a brief synopsis, the genre and my general opinion.
