film 08

the dark knight rises (2012)

as there always is, there was such a gripping narrative to this batman movie. i'm not going to spoil anything, but i predict most of you have already seen it. i thought anne hathaway played a really good rendition of catwoman and marion cotillard portrayed miranda tate amazingly well. it has the perfect amount of action, lots - and i love bane. my only downside was that a lot of what bane said was really hard to make out because of the voice effects and 'the mask' i guess.

the women (2008)

i must admit it's not the best film in the world. the best thing about it was meg ryan's curly hair, which has made me now want a perm. it's slow paced and frankly, a bit boring at the beginning - but i persevered because i can't turn a film off once i've started watching it. it has such a predictable ending and i can't imagine a single man wanting to watch it, especially with it's all girl cast. personally not a thrilling film for me but its a generally uplifting chick flick if you wanna watch it.

ted (2012)

after being in a bad mood upon entering the cinema to see this film, i sure came out totally cheered up! ted was really funny, stupid in places.. but really funny. the whole screen room was laughing all the way through, ted himself is adorable and you definitely want to dig out your teddy bear by the end. don't be softened because its about a teddybear - it's not a film for kids. so don't sneak your kid brothers/sisters or children in to see it, its rated 15 for a reason. ted is a very witty, lovable character but he's completely sex mad, vulgar and slightly racist!

wings of desire (1987)

wings of desire was a good concept and is packed with values and morals. the film itself is really slow to watch and takes ages to get the ball rolling. i thought the costume design of the circus performers, in particular the lead female role was beautifully done. bruno ganz fitted the lead angel really well, he has a very expressive face. i found the angel/human concept pretty eerie and not how i would usually like to think of angels - i this was done on purpose to challenge the usual conventions of how people imagine/perceive angels to be.

taken (2008)

after the last five years of 'taken' hype - i finally managed to watch it and i must admit.. i totally get why this film is loved by so many people. you are totally gripped from about 20 minutes in. i love that the film isn't too graphic - because it could have been done in a really insensitive way. yet luc besson still manages to keep the issues and events of the film really raw for both the characters and the audience watching, by leaving the very brutal, harrowing events to the imagination.

these posts contain a list and short bio of 5 films that i've most recently viewed. they include films that have been on my 'to watch' list for years, have been recommended to me, have been recently released or are on the list of films for my university project! i try not to include spoilers in my descriptions - just a brief synopsis, the genre and my general opinion.
