dream catching

i made myself a nice dream catcher necklace yesterday.

so first of all, i bought this huge dream catcher for €6 in corfu a few weeks ago. then after seeing alice/schadenfreude's post on her blog where she completely made her own dream catcher necklace (here) - it gave me a kick up the arse to make mine.

what you'll need: a dream catcher (or materials to make one like alice did), scissors, a lighter, black cord(optional as i used string from excess dream catcher).

step 1. so i basically destroyed my huge dream catcher first. i used the scissors to carefully cut off the two small dream catchers from the sides and i also cut the secondary dream catchers from the bottom of the main web (to use an real dream catcher on my wall - last picture.)
step 2. i took one of the smallest side dream catchers for my pendant, i trimmed the bottom row of feathers off to make the pendant more compact, i secured the ends to stop frayed by burning the fibres together with a lighter.
step 3. i then cut and unraveled the black string to make three long lengths of cord which was all wrapped and weaved around the plastic core of the main web, so that i could make a cord for my dream catcher to hang from (like shown in the picture below).
step 4. i made sure all three lengths of string were long enough for my desired necklace, then plaited the strings together to create a thicker, more robust cord.
step 5. i attached the small dream catcher to the bottom of the cord just by tying two small knots with some extra lengths of unravelled string. i used the lighter to burn the ends of the cord, to prevent fraying (luckily the cord was synthetic and burnt easily and controllably).

i think the newly smaller dream catcher looks nice on my wall, without any of the 'CORFU' letters glued across the web.

i'm really happy with the outcome, turning the sections of the dream catcher into a necklace was so easy and took about half an hour. i'm going to use the other small dream catcher that was left spare to make a necklace for my friend because she liked mine haha!
